Randolph-Macon College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Development for Athletics position in the College Advancement Office. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development for Athletics, this position will engage with student athletes, alumni, athletic donors, and athletic staff on giving program initiatives and the planning and implementation of athletic stewardship events. This gift officer position will collaborate with the Senior Director of Development for Athletics to assist in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship programs initiated by the Office of College Advancement.


Responsibilities include
:

  • Assists the Senior Director of Development for Athletics (the “Director”) with implementing a comprehensive, systematic solicitation program to achieve Yellow Jacket Club fundraising goals.
  • Develops and executes general and sport specific solicitation efforts for athletics. This includes but is not limited to all direct mail, phone, e-mail, and Macon Day solicitations.
  • Manages all Yellow Jacket Club athletic stewardship events, collaborating with Athletics and Events Management staff on the planning and execution of all event logistics. Activities may include invitations, registration, venue selection and set-up, menu selection, parking, participant communication, and ticket sales for specific events to accommodate athletic donors.
  • Assists Senior Director of Development for Athletics with engaging student athletes and athletic alumni and soliciting them for gifts. This includes leading the Wightman Bell and Student Giving campaigns. Six to eight visits a month with potential donors and volunteers is expected.
  • Supports the Yellow Jacket Club Board and fosters the efforts of Yellow Jacket Club volunteers.
  • Develops reporting and analytics requirements to evaluate the Athletic fundraising program and initiatives. Collaborates with Advancement Services in developing the related technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with Annual Giving Team, departmental colleagues, and key volunteers to identify emerging innovative, cooperative development/alumni special giving program initiatives.

8. Assists the Advancement Team in the planning and implementation of College events such as Homecoming/Reunion weekend, Macon Day, Hampden-Sydney weekend, and various other events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with a passion for excellent customer service and donor stewardship.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Must have persuasive writing and speaking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with the desire and ability to master technology systems required to become proficient in this role.
  • Must have ability to recruit and motivate volunteers, with an understanding and passion about the process of solicitation and relationship-building through cultivation.
  • Individual should possess a high energy level, initiative, and an appreciation for the purpose and values of a traditional residential liberal arts college.
  • Must be a self-starter and independent leader and worker.

Training and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Two to five years’ work experience preferred.
  • Previous fundraising experience and knowledge of athletics is preferred.
